We are looking for a High School Social Studies Teacher.
The Bug O Nay Ge Shig School is located on the Leech Lake Reservation near Cass Lake, MN and within the Chippewa National Forest. The mission of the school is “to provide students with foundations of Anishinaabe language and teachings; to integrate education with the lifeways of the Leech Lake Ojibwe Community; and to enhance their lifelong learning for post-secondary education.”
The school serves a vast geographic region and has a student body of approximately 200 students in grades K-12. The school focuses on Ojibwe Language and Culture as well as a curriculum based on state standards. All students take Ojibwe Language and Culture courses as well as the four subjects of Math, Social Studies, Science and English. Another very important component of the school is the Niigaane program, which is an Ojibwe Language Immersion program for students in grades K-6. The Bug O Nay Ge Shig School is a Tribally-Controlled Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) School and is funded through federal, state and local sources, including the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.
The 2024-25 school year will be a very exciting time to join the team of educators at the Bug O Nay Ge Shig School! The school offers:
• An Updated & Competitive Salary Scale
• Small Class Sizes
• A Committed Administration
• A Robust Student Support Team
• Up to $10,000 in additional compensation through our Mentorship Program and 21st Century
Joining the Bug O Nay Ge Shig School means joining a staff that is highly committed to making the school the first choice for education on the Leech Lake Reservation. Class sizes are kept intentionally small, there is a high priority placed upon building strong, formative relationships with students, and the setting of the school provides for a rich learning environment including modern technology resources as well as all of the opportunities that come with being in the heart of a national forest. School seasonal activities such as harvesting wild rice and maple tree sap are prioritized alongside mathematics and reading.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resume, copies of relevant licenses, and a completed application packet to Bev King, Business/Human Resources Director. Applicants with questions about the school or the position should contact Dan McKeon, Superintendent. Teachers and Administrators are required to possess a valid Minnesota License, or be able to prove they are in a program that will result in a valid Minnesota License.

The Bug O Nay Ge Shig Student Council recently had a fundraiser for the Round Dance which they are sponsoring at the school on March 22nd. Their Fry Bread Taco Sale at the Facility Center netted a profit of a little over $1000. Miigwech to all who helped.

Boozhoo Bugonaygeshig Families, and Happy Friday!
This afternoon at approximately 1pm we will be conducting some required practice safety drills, including our shelter in place drill and our evacuation drill. Staff and students have been prepared, and the whole school community is aware that these are practice safety drills. Students will practice sheltering in one of the school gymnasiums, and we will practice evacuation to the Bena Community Center, all on school buses. When our drills are complete, students will board their regular bus and head home for the weekend. We expect students will return home at their regular Friday times. School phones will continue to be staffed, but all of our teachers and support staff will be participating with the safety drills. If you have questions, please contact the school. Have a great weekend, and miigwech!

Boozhoo Bug O Nay Ge Shig Families!
Unfortunately, we have a septic system that is failing, but the good news is we have the parts and the labor to fix the problems.
The repair work will take two days, and it has been scheduled for Thursday, February 22nd and Friday, February 23rd.
We will need to close the school building during those days, but we will reopen on Monday, February 26th. No school on Thursday or Friday of this week.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but we need to get this problem fixed before it gets any worse!
Also, our next community event will be our 2nd Annual Round Dance, scheduled for March 22nd.
Miigwech for your patience and understanding!

The Valentine's Day Dance was a lot of fun! Miigwech to Gil for always providing us with a DJ!!

BugONayGeShig Elementary students and staff celebrated the 100th day of school on February 15th! Some of the staff members and students turned into 100 year old ladies to help celebrate this day.

Bug O Nay Ge Shig students celebrated Valentine’s Day in the afternoon with a variety of activities. The elementary held a dance with families invited and our own Gil Applebee spinning the tunes. In the high school, the most popular activity was cookie decorating along with volleyball.

FYI. Tonight's basketball game was rescheduled for 4:30pm in the elementary gym. Any student wanting to attend the game will need to return to school with a parent or guardian with them. Miigwech
