Boozhoo Bug O Nay Ge Shig! It's a cold but beautiful morning across Leech Lake, and as we head into a cold and unexpected long weekend away from school, we want to make food resources available to our families and students. If you are interested in a food box, here are some ways to make that happen:
1. Stop by the school anytime before noon today. We are set up on the elementary side and can bring a box right to your car.
2. Reach out to Petra (218-407-3820), Jamie, or your child's teacher to request a box. That will get you on a list and then we will work with you to coordinate delivery.
We can't promise door to door delivery, but we will work with each family who requests food to make it happen!
Boozhoo! It's about to get cold, Silver Eagles! Here's the plan for the next two days:
Thursday, January 22 and Friday, January 23 will be E Learning Days for Bug O Nay Ge Shig students. Our kids were prepped for this today, so they should have materials and instructions from their teacher for how to be counted as attending and how to get their work done. Teachers will be available throughout the school day hours to help when needed. Temperatures exceed our threshold for a late start tomorrow morning, but then they just continue to drop throughout the day. Safety has to be the top priority, so we will keep people home and warm.
We are also working to make food boxes available to families due to this very cold and unexpectedly long weekend. We are working on plans to get food to various strategic locations throughout Leech Lake, probably from 10am-Noon on Thursday. We will post that info no later than 9am on Thursday morning, along with information for who to contact if you have questions.
Staff, please watch your email for more information tonight.
To all the Bug O Nay Ge Shig Community, stay safe and stay warm!
The fact that Bug O Nay Ge Shig will be 2 hours late tomorrow will make the wasboozoog happy, but our staff is bummed they will have to wait to see the kids! Roads are going to be tough with the new snow and wind, so buses will be 2 hours behind normal schedule on Friday, January 16th. See you mid morning, Silver Eagles!
Aaniin! We have very icy roads in various spots across the Bug O Nay Ge Shig region, so school will be on a 2 hour delay for Tuesday, January 13th. As of now, we plan to have buses picking up students 2 hours later than normal. School will start at 10:15, with staff reporting at 9:45. See you later this morning, Silver Eagles!
Our 21st Century Program is ready to offer a new set of activities starting on Tuesday, and we thought the Leech Lake community might like to know what we are up to! Starting Tuesday afternoon, kids will be choosing from some of these awesome choices:
Ojibwe Language & Legos
Basketball & Organized Games
Reader's Theater
Making Shoe Art
Woodland Dancing
Ojibwe Beading & Art
Life Skills & Seasonal Science
Good things are happening at the Bug O Nay Ge Shig School, and we are excited to see what our students produce!
Bug O Nay Ge Shig buses will be running on Friday, January 9th! Yay! Please note it is the first Friday of the month, which means it is an Early Release Friday. We are excited to have our students back, and we appreciate the patience of our school community. See ya'll in the morning, Silver Eagles!!!!!
For E-Learning information, you should be getting a phone call from your students' teacher. If you don't see a message from them on the live feed, or you haven't gotten a phone call, please call the school office at 218-665-3000 and ask to speak to your students' teacher Miigwech!

Aaniin Bugonaygeshig Families – We are sorry to have to post this, but illness has hit our school community hard this week, and we are in a position where we cannot provide safe and efficient transportation to and from school on Thursday, January 8th. We will be doing an E Learning Day instead, and here’s what you need to know:
• Kindergarten through 6th grade students can expect to see their menu board of options posted by 10am on the school website or by speaking with your teacher on the phone. Teachers will be at school and available throughout the day, so don’t hesitate to reach with questions.
• 7th-12th grade students can use google classroom to access assignments, and teachers will be available throughout the day via phone, online meeting, or email for any questions.
• Staff should check school email for more information.
An E Learning Day isn’t our preference, but it is better than fully canceling the day. We hope everyone heals soon, and we look forward to doing what we normally do, in person and together each day at the bugonaygeshig school. Miigwech for your patience and understanding.
Boozhoo Bug O Nay Ge Shig Families! Our drivers are reporting slick roads, and it will only get worse. With most of our region in a winter weather advisory for the full day, the Bugonaygeshig School will be closed on Thursday, December 18th. Stay warm and stay safe, and we will look forward to seeing everyone for our Family Fun Day and last day of school before winter break on Friday!
The Bug O Nay Ge Shig School is excited to host a celebration of our students and families on December 19th! Events on our K-6 side include the "K-6 Student Showcase Bingo" during which students will be showcasing some of their work for their families and giving them a tour of the different classrooms they visit each day. There will also be a Reader's Theater Production, a variety of games in our elementary gym, and music by the great Gil Applebee! There will be Leech Lake Market Gift Cards for families who complete their Bingo Card, and a door prize drawing for all families who turn in their Bingo Cards. Events on the high school side include a variety of activities for our 7-12 students throughout the afternoon, including cookie decorating, arts and crafts, karaoke, basketball, and a gift raffle with great gifts donated by District III. Our kitchen team is prepping a ham and potato meal for all students and family members, and we will wrap it all up at 2:30 with a Closing Ceremony led by our Culture Department for everyone in attendance. Food boxes will be sent home for everyone who wants one, and we will send our students home for their Winter Break around 3pm. See the flyer for additional information and times. For K-6 families, please reach out to your child's teacher to let them know if you plan to attend or if you have questions!

Bugonaygeshig Inclement Weather/Emergency Learning Plan
(E-Learning Days)
Minnesota school districts are able to declare five “E-Learning Days” during the school year when they are able to close the school facility due to special circumstances, but continue to offer a school day by having students check in with staff and complete school work.
The Bugonaygeshig School District has a wide ranging geographic area where many of our families do not have access to the internet. Because of this, we will be providing students with both online work as well as paper copies of assignments. Additionally, we will structure our communication so that students can connect with teachers online or over the phone to get the support they need to complete their work. It is important that all students, regardless of geographic location and access to the internet, have equal access to learning materials and teacher support.
The Bugonaygeshig School District will use E-Learning Days in scenarios where an unplanned school closure is predictable, such as when a weather forecast allows a school to make a decision about a closure the day prior to that closure. E-Learning Days will not be used when the school has to make a sudden decision to close, such as a closure that gets announced early in the morning hours.
Student Directions
Student work will be posted online and printed as a packet of assignments. Students need to complete that school work and bring it back to school the next day.
If a student needs help, they can access their teacher by email or phone. Teachers will provide a schedule of available times throughout the day and contact information for their students.
Students will be counted as attending school by either completing the work that was assigned, making phone or online contact with their teacher, or both.
Staff Directions
Staff will be available between the hours of 8:15AM and 3:20PM.
Teachers will provide students with contact information where they can be reached on an E-Learning Day, even though they may not be expected to be in the building.
Teachers are expected to be available during their contracted hours, and teachers should check their email first thing in the morning for additional information from administration.
Teachers will provide students with hard copies of learning materials prior to an E Learning Day, as well as posting those materials online for students to access.
Teachers will mark attendance based on work completion and/or communication with students.
The Bug O Nay Ge Shig School will be closing today (December 9) at 12:30. Students will follow their regular schedule, including having lunch, and then board buses to head home at 12:30. With many of our roads already compromised, we want to get people home safely before the heavy snow and stronger winds hit the area this afternoon. Stay safe out there, and miigwech for being a part of our Bugonaygeshig community!
Boozhoo Bug O Nay Ge Shig Families & Staff! School will be in session tomorrow morning, but we have asked our drivers to not drive roads that haven't been maintained. We will be in touch in the morning as our drivers are out, and any student who is at a stop our drivers can't get to will be excused. Stay safe out there Bugonaygeshig family!
Biboon! It came quickly this year. Given road conditions throughout the Bugonaygeshig region, there will be no school on Wednesday, November 26th. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend, and we will look forward to seeing our students on Monday. Stay safe and warm out there!
We are running low on bus drivers, so today we are unable to run activity routes. There will be no basketball or 21st Century on Tuesday, November 18th. Students will be on their normal bus route home.
Bug O Nay Ge Shig is looking for a new Groundskeeper! It's an awesome job that includes being an important part of our school team, but with a lot of independence working outside to help keep our campus looking good. The main parts of the job change seasonally.....mowing, snow removal, keeping walkways clear and safe, etc. Applications are available at bugonaygeshig.com, or just stop by or call the school to learn more!
Please join us on November 21st in celebrating 50 YEARS of the BUG-O-NAY-GE-SHIG School🦅💙🩶
